Stimulan Rapid Cure

Implantable grade calcium sulfate matrix with aqueous mixing solution, supplied in pre-measured quantities. The calcium matrix is composed of >98% calcium sulfate (calcium sulfate hemihydrate with ≤2% calcium sulfate dihydrate) and ≤2% inorganic additives. When mixed, the resultant paste may be implanted into open voids/gaps of the musculoskeletal system to set in situ or placed in the bead mould mat provided to form beads for implantation. The biodegradable, radiopaque beads are absorbed by the body in approximately 30–60 days. Accessories are provided for preparation and use. Product, accessories and packaging are not made from natural rubber latex. Non-metallic and non-magnetic and poses no known hazards in all magnetic resonance environments. Suitable as a carrier material for substances such as antibiotics. Intended to be gently packed into bony voids or gaps of the skeletal system (i.e. extremities, pelvis, and posterolateral spine). It absorbs and is replaced with bone during the healing process. Biodegradable and biocompatible.

Indications

Calcium matrix for bone and surrounding soft tissue implantation to fill voids, defects or gaps (not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure) created by surgery, cyst, tumour, osteomyelitis or traumatic injury. May be used at an infected site and, when mixed with antibiotics, can help treat infection of the bone void and surrounding soft tissue. May be used in stage 4 pressure ulcers only to treat osteomyelitis

Contraindications

Filling of defects that are intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure; severe vascular or neurological disease; uncontrolled diabetes; severe degenerative bone disease; pregnancy; uncooperative patients who can’t or won’t follow post-operative instructions, including those that abuse drugs or alcohol; hypercalcaemia; hyperkalaemia; renal compromised patients; do not implant in the cranium where there is risk of contact with cerebrospinal fluid or dura mater.
